The visitor turns a wheel to adjust the heading of the model yacht. Floating around the yacht are computer generated projections that depict air flow and physical forces being exerted on the yacht and sails.
The component features a simplified ‘Points of sail’ diagram that illustrates the yachts potential speed at various angles to the wind. The component also features a top down diagrammatic view of the wind flow around a sail and how this creates proportion forces.

The Physics of Sailing

  • Projection Mapping

This component uses a moving physical model of a yacht and a stylized wind tunnel to dynamically illustrate the aerodynamic forces that enable a yacht to move upwind. The systems utilises interactive 3D project mapping that paints the sails with a pressure diagram as they move through space.
