Think Maori is a large, introductory gallery to the Te Puia experience. Its aim is to change the way people perceive the geothermal landscape by introducing visitors to a Maori way of viewing the environment. We utilise large projection surfaces that play the role of sets and props for local guides to tell stories of the region.

Ruamoko Rock

Atua Realms

Large scale projected digital environments depict the realms of the Maori gods Tangaroa and Tane.

Poupou Animations

We bring carved figures to life by showing the stories behind them. The design style stays as true as possible to the storytelling techniques of wood carving..

Purakau Story

This animated sequence tells the story of ancestors in the region. The characters were developed entirely in-house and were modelled on real people to bring a sense of historicity to a traditional story.
